Charter Oak Compustat Add-On Databases The Standard & Poor's Compustat North American database ("Current Compustat") was designed with primary emphasis on the presentation of current period quarterly and annual company financial data. Preliminary data, first reported finalized data filed with the SEC, and any restatements through time are overwritten with the most current data values available. Thus, the Current Compustat database contains a mixture of preliminary, first reported, and restated values. View a sample of data content type in Current Compustat. Add-On Databases The purpose of the Compustat Add-On Databases is to address the needs of the more quantitatively-oriented, longer-term-backtesting researchers by storing all data from Current Compustat before it gets overwritten: preliminary values, first reported values filed with the SEC, and any data values changed through restatements and captured in Current Compustat. While the Current Compustat Database is available through multiple channels and vendors, the Charter Oak Compustat Add-On Database products are generated from the weekly Research Insight CD-ROMs. By loading each weekly Research Insight CD from 1987 to the present, Charter Oak is able to capture and store all values in Current Compustat before they are overwritten. The Preliminary, Unrestated Quarterly, and Point-in-Time Add-On Databases provide the means to eliminate discontinuities that result from the addition and deletion of companies' fundamental data, and provide a more accurate representation of how a portfolio would have performed. The Charter Oak Compustat Add-On Database products contain research and active companies for both the United States and Canada. These datasets also contain the monthly Pricing Dividend and Earnings ("PDE") file along with Current Compustat quarterly and annual values.
